But Why?

But why?

This is s a question I find myself asking all the time. Like yesterday when I walked out of work to three inches of snow on my car. Or Saturday morning when the dog decided eight o'clock was late enough and it is time for everyone to be up.

But why?

We could question everything, but we would never get anywhere. Dwelling on things of the past do not let us move forward into the future. I am guilty of dwelling on things. As much as I try there are just a few things from the past that I can't stop thinking about. Like the time I completely freaked out during sand volleyball when I rolled my ankle (I looked ridiculous). One of the things I have held on to for a while now is something that one of my professors said to me during a class in college.

I remember it so clearly, I was in the journalism building for an evening class taught by an adjunct professor with three other students (all older than me). We were working on an interactive media project as a team and the focus was on Franklin, IN and I was supposed to be focusing on flood damage. What I don't remember is why the next conversation took place. All I hold on to is that it ended in my professor telling me,

"No one cares about what you want to say (write)"

But why?

Marble floors aren't my friend

Let's all jump into our time machines shall we, and travel back to my freshman year of college. I am in John Krull's journalism class - it was our first real story writing class which usually meant a lot of fake phone calls and pop in "witnesses" to different things. This day however was different because we were taking a trip to the Statehouse.

We were told to dress up so in my mind that meant a dress with a cardigan and heels obviously. The heels of course were too high to be walking around Indianapolis in and did not have a lot of tread on them, since I was a poor college kid and bought my shoes from Charlotte.

Anyway, so there we are walking through the statehouse getting a tour of where all the action happens and BOOM down I go. In the rotunda in front of everyone. So embarrassing! Luckily, my then friend (she who shall not be named now) grabbed my arm and had me back on my feet almost before I hit the floor.

Lesson learned though, when walking on marble floors always wear good shoes.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

Reunited for the weekend

Monday is here yet again and that means the weekend is over - obvi. Unfortunately that means the end of a great weekend with friends and heading back to life in the real world.

Even though a lot happened this weekend it didn't feel like it really. I took off from work early on Friday and headed home to do a bit of last minute sprucing up around the house before my friends got to town. We talked, caught up and ate, and once the last of us showed up we headed out for some dancing in town. I love that you can go so long without seeing someone and then once you are reunited it is like you were never apart.
Out for the night at Flashbacks to dance to the best songs ever.

Saturday started late with breakfast and some sun-bathing, and then after dealing with my brother's car drama we headed to the winery. This is the same winery I had previously talked about in a weekend wrap-up post, but none of these girls had been so it was new and fun for everyone.

A nice bottle of White Cab while sitting al fresco at Country Heritage

After a tasting we all got a bottle and sat down to just talk some more. Eventually we took pictures - it is inevitable - and then headed home.

The Ladies at the Winery

After lunch on Sunday everyone took off and Remi just sat there staring at the door. He was so used to people coming in and out this weekend that I don't think he knew what was going on when they all left. Needless-to-say, I got a lot of cuddle time with my puppy throughout the day - while soaking up the last of the summer sun while I can.

And that is the weekend everyone. Now it is back to the real world to count down until Friday. Hey, it is a three-day weekend next weekend so there is that!

I was really liking how my eyelashes were looking yesterday. Check out Benefit x Birchbox's giveaway that I submitted this picture for!
What did you do this weekend?

An engagement & a basket

Recently my best friend got engaged and  I was lucky enough that her now-fiance invited us to come and be a part of it. I was the hidden photographer and some how I held it together. While I was shooting though I realized I love taking pictures and am considering pursuing it as a hobby. My mom was a photographer, so I grew up in the business and am used to everything. Unfortunately I missed out on all of her equipment when she closed shop a few years ago. Guess I know what I will be asking for for gifts for the next year or so!

Since I am in an engagement mood I figured it would be a good time to tell the story of our engagement. Ever since Nate and I realized that we both wanted to spend the rest of our lives together we had a little joke about my engagement ring. As poor college students who mutually hated debt, I knew that he wasn't going to get a diamond from him any time soon - or so I thought - so I always said that I would say yes even if he proposed with a sparkly spider ring. By my senior year, he had graduated and started working as an Athletic Trainer, and we were coming up on our three year anniversary. We wouldn't be able to celebrate on our actual anniversary due to his work schedule so we celebrated a month early and went out to dinner. As we were getting our dessert, he asked if I was ready to exchange cards and I of course said yes not knowing that anything was going on. As I opened mine I noticed something fall out - a spider ring covered in rhinestones - and he opened the blinds of the window next to us to reveal both of our families standing outside. I lost it, I am a very emotional person and I really just lost it and started crying my eyes out realizing what was going on. I couldn't tell you what he said as he was proposing, thankfully I have the card which basically said everything he said then. Of course I said yes and that was the beginning of our lovely little life together.

Funny enough,  the secret photographer for our engagement was my friend I took pictures for also. She was a crying mess at my engagement too so our pictures were a little blurry but they perfectly capture the moment.

Don't mind the guy in the corner.

Blurry

The ring was/is absolutely perfect.

Anyway, below are a few pictures of us and the happy couple as well as a few detail shots from the day. I also listed out what I included in a gift basket that I made for her.

The engagement basket I made was kind of last minute but I really enjoyed making it and I think it would be something I would love to make again sometime and see what else I could do to get even more creative and fun with it. For this basket I included:

  • a wedding magazine
  • his and hers champagne glasses
  • Hershey kisses
  • thank you cards
  • a note pad
  • the new initial for her soon-to-be last name
  • a frame for a picture of the moment
  • a bottle of champs (not pictured)
What else would you put in a engagement gift basket?

KatiAnne

Sisters of the Wine and Blue

My pledge class on our last Bid Day circa 2012

Today marks 147 years that my amazing sorority has been in existence. April 28, 1867 was the day that set the tone for me and my fellow sisters of the wine and blue. A group of young women at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois decided they wanted to form an organization like that of men's fraternities. Because of these women, I had the opportunity to experience some amazing things during college.

I am a proud member of the Indiana Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi. Not only did I gain amazing friends that will be with me for my life, but I had amazing opportunities throughout my college years. Even now as an alumnae of Pi Phi I have the opportunity to be involved and help the next group of young angels make their mark on the world through acts of leadership and service. Sisterhood, service, leadership and integrity are the base of my amazing sorority and I could not be more proud of the group that I will forever belong to.

We are sisters of the wine and blue, and friends forever true. Happy 147 years Pi Phi. Here is to another 147.
