All the Family

This weekend was a slightly longer one since I ended up taking the afternoon off on Friday. But before we get into all of that, look at our cabinets!

Nate got the first section finished up and they look awesome, I'm obsessed. Now we need to finish the rest of them and pick out handles. Hooray from DIY projects!

[Friday]

We had drove up to Fort Wayne Thursday night because Nate's sister and her daughter flew in. So the entire weekend was spent having lots of family/friend time. Friday morning though I actually worked from the office (I work from home normally) and it was so great to be in that environment. That afternoon/evening I spent time with the family and the two littlest members.

[Saturday]

During the day, it was all family time once again. Nate helped out his parents with a bit of demo (pulling up the floors) in their kitchen while his sister and I hung out with the babes. That evening Nate, Leighton and I headed over to our friends' house for dinner (the most yummy Italian food) and the basketball game. #boilerdown

[Sunday]

We headed off to church first thing in the morning. Then it was lunchtime, packing and more family time. It was so, so nice to be able to just relax and spend time with family all weekend. When we got back to our house that evening, we did a little cleaning before trying to get little mister to sleep. That didn't happen by the way. I think it may have actually been the worst he has slept since he was born - woke up every hour for the first chunk of the night. He and I actually both ended up just shy of having fevers by Monday, but we are all better now.

And that was that. Nothing crazy, just the perfect amount of relaxation and family fun.

The Next Chapter

 photo NewChapterTitle_zpsrcavlydg.jpg

Goodness, where do I even start. This past month has been a whirlwind. Between getting used to life as a mom and now starting work again, it has been one of the quickest months I have experienced I think.

That being said, I have actually had a lot of time to think about this little place in the blog world and what I want to do with it moving forward. Honestly, this space gives me a kind of escape. Before I started this blog, I would read into people's comments and over-analyze what I had said to the point that it would cause me anxiety. By putting it all out there and opening myself up to receiving comments and thoughts from anyone who happened to stumble upon my blog I have been able to move on and work through that anxiety.

It has been a few years since Raindrops on Roses began and my life has changed a bit. With those life changes I feel like I have to change my focus here a bit. Really, the main aspects stay the same. I am still a huge lover of getting glammed up, doing DIY/crafting projects at home and cooking. The change? Instead of doing all of those things as a twenty-something newlywed, I am now a twenty-something mom and wife that is trying to balance all of the things that I love with spending ample time with my husband and cherishing every moment of my little one's life. This will be a real-life type of place. I can't always be glammed up, sometimes I am lucky to even wash my face in the morning.

Welcoming 2016

Yeah, yeah I know we are two weeks into the new year already, but I still want to start the year with this post. Just bear with me for a second.

Before we can move forward into a new year, I think it is only right to look back on the previous 365 days. If you make it through the 24 pictures of flashbacks then you will see my plan for the next year. I am not making a resolution, I am setting a theme/word to live by. First, here is a look back at 2015.

[January]

We rung in the new year and we took on Chicago for a bachelorette party.

[February]

I cheered on the Komets as a Komette and celebrated Valentine's Day with the girls by having dinner and a movie.

[March]

We went out with our Fort Wayne friends and sold our house.

Bumpdate | Weeks 33 & 34

 photo 34weeks_zpsapkj5dj1.jpg

Yea, I don't have an excuse for why I didn't post my update last week. I mean life happens and I got distracted, let's be honest. So here is two weeks of updates in one!

[How far along]

The countdown is under 40 days. We were at 34 weeks Thursday, which means only 39 (give or take a few days possibly) stand between us and our new life with this little boy.

[Size of the baby]

Butternut Squash or a Cantaloupe. So he is about 17.7 inches and 5 pounds (if he is like the average).

[Weight Gain]

31 or so pounds. It is crazy to see these numbers. I still feel pretty good though and I am so thankful for that.

[Symptoms]

I am definitely starting to feel hot more often, until recently I honestly had been cold more than hot. Baby brain is happening, Nate thinks it is just an excuse but I believe it is real. I have noticed a bit of swelling in my hands throughout the day, but nothing crazy or painful. Truly though, I think having 32 weeks of easy sailing is starting to catch up with me, as I expected. Honestly, I think the best thing I have been doing to help with everything is just drinking a ton of water. I was starting to get a lot of leg cramps and I really bumped up my water intake and ever since I have felt so much better. I also came up with a simple workout plan to keep me moving until the baby comes which has been good. Squat 'til he is here is the motto for the next 40 or so days.

[Gender]

We are having a little boy! The reveal story is here.

[Nursery Update]

It looks so adorable, yeah I am biased but still. We are definitely ready for baby. Needing diapers, wipes and a few little things but if he would come today we would be fine.

[Craving]

Well lately I have really been wanting a cookie. Apples are still high on my list though too!

[Projects]

Storage solutions
Organization Ideas for closet
Art/pictures on wall
Heartbeat print
"bearskin" rug?
Lost Boys Blocks
Maternity picture list
Newborn picture list & prop shopping list
Hospital bag packing list
Diaper bag packing list
Peter Pan Hat
Dream Catcher
Cradle Sheet

Progress is being made, this is seriously all I worked on this all last week and have been working on it all this week too. Sharing it all soon (next week)!

[Random]

I have last minute lists that I am working on finishing up. One of which is our hospital bags list. Any must have or must leave items from you other mommies? Also working on getting the diaper bag ready. It is so real now I can't even believe it!

So last Sunday at church, I underestimated how big my stomach was and how close the railing on the kneeler was and I bumped it and almost fell off. That would have been embarrassing...

We had our breastfeeding class this week and I am feeling a lot better about it all. Breastfeeding in general is one of the only things that is causing me a bit of anxiety so it was nice to leave with some peace of mind.

It's about that time

Well, I have to be honest. We have been keeping a secret. Home projects and travel weren't the only things making it hard to blog, it is also really hard to blog when you feel like you are hiding something (which I was).

Secret is... I'm pregnant!
Yup, Nate and I are expecting our little bundle of joy this December! We are beyond excited and are so relieved to be able to tell the world finally, and I am sure our friends and family that know are relieved as well.

So here is the story for any inquiring minds. We had been talking about wanting to start a family, but with our upcoming move decided we should probably wait. I didn't think twice when I was a bit late since I had been slightly stressed out for the past few months. Our move was April 11 and it went as smooth as could be. April 12 (my birthday) rolled around and Nate nonchalantly suggested I take a test before we ran to the store, both of us fully expecting it to be negative. So without a second thought I went upstairs and did my thing. As I saw that little plus sign grow stronger and stronger I lost it. Full on ugly cry. I ran down the stairs to Nate just standing there looking at me like a deer in headlights. Obviously he could assume what just transpired but we were both in a bit of shock. After holding each other and crying a bit, I wiped my eyes (which looked like a full blown raccoon by this point) and we gathered ourselves to head to the store.

We both agreed we wanted to tell our families as soon as possible, and they have been keeping our secret ever since. A handful of friends know and they have been amazing and kept our secret too (well almost all of them - you know who you are). Now the secret is out and the baby talk can be public.

Today marks the beginning of week 13! I don't want to flood my personal Facebook page with baby updates, so all of that will live here where people can choose to read it or not. Here is the update so far!

How far along:

13 Weeks

Size of the baby:

Peach (2.9 inches)

Weight Gain:

About a pound and a half as of this morning (the nausea did a number on my appetite)

Stretch Marks:

Nope

Sleep:

Decent, I have been having some crazy dreams though. Sleeping on my stomach is starting to feel weird.

Gender:

Not sure yet but my gut says it will be a boy.

Maternity clothes:

Nope

Craving:

Honestly, pineapple all the time and spicy foods

Feeling:

Relief, we heard the heartbeat again yesterday and it just gives you peace.

How is that for a life update!? Things around here are going to change a bit just because my style and priorities are going to be a little different. I guess this makes me a mommy blogger now, don't worry the hair and beauty stuff will stay around. I can't get rid of that.

Big, Big News

No, I'm not pregnant. That seems to be the norm as of late though, but that is not our news. I will tell you all about it, after my weekend wrap-up.

Let's start with Friday (the obvious place to start). Friday was just my dog and I being lazy. I was going to do some major cleaning, but laying on the floor with my puppy watching trash tv and girly movies won out. I did manage to stop by Target on my way home and got a bunch of Twizzlers and some mugs for the girls for Galentine's Day.

 photo 1424094373904_zpsateg4hgd.jpg  photo IMG_20150213_182323_zpscrehfu5h.jpg  photo IMG955163_zpsrtig2teb.jpg

Saturday came around and the first half of my day was again spending time with my fur child (Remington). He has been super needy lately, but I am fine with the extra attention I get to give him. He has made this beginning of baseball season travel better - I have someone to talk to, even if he can't talk back.

Around 2 p.m. I started slowly getting ready for my Galentine's date with my amazing friends (pictured above). Getting all dolled up is my favorite, and I felt awesome about my makeup that day. Tried some new things and they worked amazingly - this may end up being my first makeup tutorial look. We will see.

Life

Well that was a weekend. I'm not going to go into the crazy details just yet, but just know things might be a little touch an go here for a little while.

Anyway let's weekend recap and get into my thoughts on the Grammys.

Friday, we went to dinner with the in-laws. Margs, chips, salsa, the works. I was a happy girl. After that we met up with our friends and had real life talk all night.

Saturday was a lazy day for the most part. We watched movies, did laundry and cleaned before Nate went to work. Then that night we went out for the first time in a while. It was a much needed time out with our friends. Plus it meant I got to dress up and it had been a hot minute since I did that last.

Sunday came and I got myself up and headed to church while Nate went to work again. After work it was more movies and laziness, before moving on to getting some computer related work done. And then, Grammys.

So if you watched the Grammys or the red carpet, you would have noticed one thing on the girls. Skin. Yup, cutouts and sheer panels everywhere.

Honestly, I loved it. They were all tastefully done and created drama without being crazy overdone. And it is the Grammys for goodness sake. There is always a bit of crazy.

So my best dressed honestly has to be Taylor. Her dress was gorgeous and the shoes were perfect. Simple hair and makeup, I loved it.

My least favorite outfits were probably...Kim K, Madonna, and Charlie XCX. Kim because it looked like she was wearing a bedazzled bathrobe and the other two because it was so predictable. Did I think Madonna would show up in a bull-fighter outfit specifically? No, but I knew it would be theatrical.

Performance wise, I loved Annie Lennox and Hosier singing "Take Me to Church" and Beyonce killed it when she sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". I was also surprised to like Kanye's solo performance as well as the trio of him, Rihanna, and Sir Paul.

And that was that. Who did you love and not at the Grammys this year? Did you think it was underwhelming?

Hope you have a great start to the work week! Only 4 days until Friday.

Pet Peeves

Pet Peeves... Every one has them. Some people have more than others, but everyone has something that bugs them. If for some reason you are the exception to the rule, then congrats because you are truely a special individual and deserve an award.

Here we go...

When people don't care about what their children are doing.

Seriously though, there is no need to let your child run around like a mad person. I know I don't have kids so I can't know what it is like yet, but my mom always kept us from running around like a chicken with its head cut off so it has to be do-able right? If not then my mother is super mom and deserves an award like all you people with no pet peeves.

Laundry sorted wrong

While I praised my mom in the last one, I am blaming her for this one. I cannot stand it when laundry is sorted wrong, and by wrong I mean not the way I would. Of course I separate out hot, warm and cold, but then I do colors too - warm separately from cool, white from black. I even sort out the weight of things, jeans and sweatshirts are totally separate from t-shirts. The husband doesn't touch the laundry as your could probably guess.

Grammar mistakes in FB rants

Everyone makes a small mistake sometimes, but  I cannot stand when someone goes off on a rant and spells something wrong. Nothing discredits an argument faster to me than using the wrong form of your (you're), there (their), apart (a part), etc.

Ignoring your hairstyle from behind

My Oma gets credit for this. She told me to always pay attention to how the back of my hair was styled. Really though, just like bad grammar discredits your argument, a badly styled back of the head completely ruins a look that was otherwise on point.

I am going to stop there or I would just let the whole world in on my OCD/very odd pet peeves. Surely I am not the only one that has some of these on their list. What bugs you?

Thanks for reading!

Friday's Favorites | Sept. 12

Oh hey Friday!

1. First of all, I am loving FITMISS' Twitter account. Every day they post a workout in this nice little format that is really easy to follow on your phone at the gym. They also post little inspirational things, fitness articles, recipes and other products to try. I have done the workout below twice now and it is killing my legs. Both times I have done it I have not been able to get through 5 sets of each, but I am working up to it. Your legs kill by the end - it is great. Follow FITMISS on Twitter to help you get your workout going.

2. I am obsessed with my first Fall purchase - these REPORT Cullen booties. Super comfortable and so adorable. I love them and can't wait to wear them this season. Best of all I got them at Marshalls so I got them at a great price too!

REPORT Cullen Booties (loving these and these too!)

3. I got this Katy Perry Killer Queen perfume for my birthday in April and I am still in love with it! I took a short break from it this summer for some lighter fragrances  but with the cooler weather I am going back to it and falling in love all over again. I love the packaging and it looks great sitting on the counter in my bathroom. The scent is a mix of Dark Plum, Wild Berry, Bergamot (top notes), followed by Natural Jasmine Sambac, Rainbow Plumeria, Red Velvet Flower (middle notes), and ending with Cashmeran, Natural Patchouli Heart, Liquid Praline (base notes). Good job Katy Perry.

4. I still can't get over how perfect Cody and Michelle are! Both of the final couples on Bachelor in Paradise are honestly perfect, but I was rooting for Michelle to find love from the beginning.

5. I can't get enough of Maroon 5's new album either. I have listened to it almost every day this week to be completely honest. I don't know what exactly it is about it, but I cannot get enough!

That is all for my favorites this week. What are you favorites lately? Anything good that I should check out?

Have a great weekend everyone!

KatiAnne
